image My interest in photography started when I was 16. I bought my first SLR, a Canon T70. A classic, bulletproof workhorse. That camera would follow me everywhere I went for years to come. Believe it or not, that very same camera works perfectly to this day. The one day that changed my whole out look on photography was at the hospital for the birth of a cousin. My family commented on how they loved the poses I was able to capture of people. From there on I would go to great lengths to get the perfect angle for the composition. For me, the most important thing about a photograph is the story it tells, that captured moment in time. Those stories are retold every time someone looks at these photographs. With a good photo you don’t just capture an image, you forever freeze that moment in time in someone’s life.

image My first camera was an Argus 110 that I got for Christmas when I was 7 years old and that camera went with me everywhere I went. I remember a 3rd grade field trip to African Lion Safari where I was able to talk the bus driver into opening the bus door so I could take a picture of the lion lying at the side of the car path! Try doing that today! A succession of film and digital point-and-shoot cameras later and I made the decision to take my photography to a higher level. I bought my first SLR, a second hand Minolta, in 2005, and quickly learned that I had a lot to learn about the technical aspects of capturing interesting and compelling images. For me, a photo needs to do more than just capture a moment I want it to tell a story, convey a mood, or stir an emotion.
